6 Unique Ideas for Positive Workplace Initiatives

Mary Griffin • December 30, 2025

Happy 2026, team! Mary here to share more about how you can Find, Be, and Build your positive influence. Typically, in the new year, we would write about setting goals. However, this year, we are taking goal setting up a notch: Let’s talk about setting team goals through positive workplace initiatives.

Gratitude Group

The first unique positive workplace initiative on our list stems from our team at IA Business Advisors. Since November 2020, we host a weekly thirty-minute Gratitude Group session where we all come together to learn about a specific topic and share what we are grateful for. This year, our team reviewed IA’s mission, vision, and values, S.M.A.R.T. Management practices, and best communication tactics for high-performing teams. Next year, our whole team will be reading all three books.

Gratitude Group is a positive and unique way to bring your team together, engage them in learning, and promote good mental health practices. It’s one of our team’s favorite times of the week. If you want to implement Gratitude Group on your team, be sure to first teach them about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. On days when we might struggle to say what we are grateful for, looking at the Hierarchy of Needs helps us narrow things down.

Mentor Speed Dating

We are all familiar with speed dating, but has anyone tried this concept with mentors? If your organization is large enough, it could be beneficial to gather team members who want to be mentors with team members who would like a mentor and allow them to mingle with each other quickly to see if anyone would be a good fit. This activity can remove bias, introduce team members, and cross pollinate between different silos. Then, you can consider doing the mentor speed dating again later in the year to allow team members to choose a new person.

Steps Challenge

Encouraging your team to be active is an excellent positive workplace initiative. There are many ways you can encourage movement, but one way that is accessible to most people is with steps. Turning it into a gentle competition between departments can up the heat and keep everyone engaged.

Noms and Hydration

Something that is overlooked in many organizations is healthy food and drinks for team members. A super easy and non-invasive workplace initiative is filling the cupboards and fridge with healthy foods and drinks for everyone to enjoy. Below are some questions you can ask your team to remain mindful of everyone’s food preferences and allergies.

1)    Do you have any food allergies or sensitivities?

2)    Do you have any preferred healthy snacks or drinks?

3)    Do you have any other food or drink restrictions we should know about? (Vegan, GF, Keto, etc.)

Hire Day Rewards

Celebrating the day someone was hired is like celebrating a birthday! Teams should be getting excited about the day a team member joined. This celebration can look different for everyone. Some organizations host luncheons to honor a hire day, while others get a small gift and card. Let your imagination run wild! Or better yet, ask your team how they want to celebrate their hire day.

Is your team expanding? Maybe celebrating everyone’s hire day isn’t feasible, so instead you can dedicate one day a month to celebrating everyone who was hired that month. You can make this positive workplace initiative work for you and your team!

Workshops

Keeping your team educated is a win-win for everyone. Smarter team members mean better collaboration and results. Consider hosting workshops to help team members learn financial literacy, retirement planning, goal setting, and so much more. You might even consider asking team members for ideas on workshops to better understand what they want to learn. Alternatively, you can put the workshops up to a vote and let the team decide which they would like to attend.

Positive Workplace Initiatives

Coming together as a team can be rewarding, inspiring, and motivating. We are all in need of some more fun in our lives, so by implementing some positive workplace initiatives, you can make your workplace more enjoyable for everyone. If you don’t like our unique ideas, consider having a brainstorming session with your team. Your people know your business best. Let us know what you come up with to help inspire your team in the new year.
